One last time...

We celebrated the new beginning yesterday, but there was one more panel that deserves a shout out from this week's books, and that's the last in-continuity appearance of the old Superman.

Yep, there goes the Post-Crisis/Pre-Flashpoint Superman, dissolving into the speed force.

Rest easy big guy, as you definitely earned it.

I'll be seeing you in the longboxes as always. In the meantime, however, let's see what this new upstart can do.

Birthday posting

Just a quick post today, as it's your humble bloggers birthday. I'm sure there's some birthday tradition involving presents and cakes and whatnot that the wife and kid have cooked up, so let's get this post taken care of so I can relax and enjoy it.

Which reminds me, didn't Superman have a birthday party once?

Good thing I have a firm "NO BLACK MERCY" rule for all my get-togethers.

Ten Days of Action Comics #6

We're quickly approaching Wednesday, and with it the release of Action Comics #900. Like we did for most of last week, we're taking a look at all of the centennial anniversary issues of Action. Up today is issue #600!

Like yesterday's issue #500, this one feels very anniversary-ish...what with the gold statue and all.

Readers of my other blog, The Random Longbox, may remember that I took an in depth look at this issue last year. Click on over here, here, and here if you need more than one panel of Superman excellence today,.

And readers of this blog have come to expect a Superman vs. Dinosaurs themed posting today, to which I apologize and promise the Sunday versus posts will resume next week. In the meantime, if you squint really hard and look at the cover for today, you can almost imagine that Superman is fighting a pterodactyl instead of Mat-Bat. Almost.

The old switcheroo...

At last, after forty years of super-villain shenanigans, the true meaning of evil is about to make itself known.

And brought on by Superman, no less!

Now we all know that that's not the real Superman.

Bonus points for anyone out there who knows which one of the super-villains at their feet is the real Superman.

And super-double bonus points to anyone out there who knows the identity of the rather generic looking fella on the right.

And super-triple bonus points to anyone out there who knows what blockbuster series took this storyline and expanded upon it almost three decades later.
